Boab Trees in Derby!

Our love affair with Boab Trees continued in Derby where you can see one that was used as a prison tree years ago and also try to get that perfect sunset shot of the iconic Boab at One Mile Damn on the outskirts of Derby.    We had a lovely dinner at the Jila Gallery and Cafe so had to go back for coffee (and cake!) the next day!

We had planned to backtrack to Tunnel Creek and Windjana Gorge at the Derby end of the Gibb River Road but decided to save this for a future trip as definately want to to come back and do everything on the Gibb River with older children!  We also wanted to make it to Broome for Jess's birthday so she could do the camel ride and make it a day to remember!

The opening isn't all that big - I wouldn't like to be inside!

Jack was the photographer here...

Jess was a little crazy after the long drive...

We had a great sunset to practice our photography but there were a few people trying to get the perfect shot so it was hard to get the full tree in view but we think we got a couple of good ones - perhaps even good enough to enlarge and put on our wall in Canberra to remind us of this trip!

This is where Phil played with some settings on the computer...

And then the moon came up in such a perfect spot!!

It was certainly fun to see what we had got once we downloaded the pictures and had a play with them on iPhoto!

Jack and Phil tried to go fishing at the Derby Wharf the next morning before we left but it was low tide and since Derby has the largest tides in Australia (up to 12m), fishing was off!

Where's the water Dad?

Derby's wide main street built around the Boab's!

On the way to Broome!

Reading a book on Jess's last night of being 3!  Just made it to Broome in time!
